The Wife of the Sokoto State Governor and founder of MMAWT legacy initiative has been decorated as the Patron of African Women in Leadership Organization (AWLO) at its induction and awards dinner held on the 15th of December, in Uyo Akwa Ibom State.
In his welcome address, Dr. Elisha Attai Co-founder and president of the organisation, welcomed all the attendees to the event and stated that the organisation was celebrating exceptional people who have been making a meaningful impact within and outside Nigeria in various spheres of life.
In her acceptance speech, the wife of the Sokoto State Governor, Hajiya Maryam Mairo Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, who was represented by Hajiya Aishatu Hassan Turai, DG SOSMEDA, commended the untiring efforts of the founder and acknowledged the meaningful impact made by AWLO so far in promoting women participation in politics, Entrepreneurship
She affirmed that though Nigerian Women constitute 50 percent of the population, the 35 percent affirmative action for women in Leadership position is yet to be achieved
And advice that women do not necessarily have to depend on government jobs for a breakthrough but to explore self-reliance through Entrepreneurship,
The wife of the governor further said, “it is in realization of such and other challenges that her NGO, MMAWT legacy initiative was established, with the focal purpose of giving governance a human face in collaboration with government and donor agencies across Sokoto State”. She also commended the Executive Governor of Sokoto state, His Excellency, Rt.Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, for the Gender friendly efforts of his administration,
The wife of the Akwa Ibom state governor, Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel represented by the commissioner for women affairs described women as “masterpieces” designed by God in strength, courage, and perseverance. She called on the women to set their goals according to their passion and not just aspire but work towards making their dreams come true.
Dr. Violet Arlene who is the AWLO Global Youth Matron took time to educate the attendees about AWLO stating that its mission is to bring together female executives, professionals, and leaders to further advance the leadership status of women and equal access in all areas of existence. She added that the affiliate bodies of the organisation include AWLO youth council, leadership school, and executive short-term training.
