Representatives of MMAWT legacy initiative as a team and Founder Hajiya Mairo Aminu Waziri Tambuwal , Wife of the Sokoto State Governor were today in Kaduna for the 55th anniversary and relaunch of the Jamiyyar Matan Arewa organization.
The event was held at Yar Aduwa indoor Murtala Square.
The non governmental organisation is for all Northern women regardless of religion, tribe , creed , political party or economic status.
This Platform as Non-Governmental Organization, Jamiyar Matan Arewa (JMA) established by women of northern Nigeria extraction has for the past 50 years been putting smiles, giving hope and life to the hopeless children within the society.
Established in 1963 with the blessing and support of the late Sardauna of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello, the organization has consistently supported the overall growth of every child that comes in contact with it. When the idea of JMA as an NGO was initiated, the need to come up with a project or program for the NGO became paramount.
So, the idea to begin to cater for helpless children was birthed when the founding mothers of the organization visited Barau Dikko hospital, and saw nine children abandoned by their parents in the hospital. Moved by the scenario, they immediately decided to begin to operate an orphanage where such children can be adequately catered for as the NGO’s core project.
They went ahead to narrate what they saw in the hospital to Sir Ahmadu Bello who donated a house at Dendo road in Kaduna and 500 pounds to start the orphanage. As time went on, people began fostering the children. The house given by Sir Ahmadu Bello then has been expanded to accommodate the home, school, laboratories and skills acquisition centre for women ,among others.
In her key note address the chairperson resuscitation commitee of JMA, Mrs Pamela Sadauki said,the resuscitation is aimed at strategizing on how to reach out for more women,girls and youth to create programmes and come up with projects in order to meet the sustainable development goals.
With this development JMA will work with government, international Donor agencies, and various stake holders to empower girls and women and address the growing menacing issue of drug abuse in the north.
A key note lecture titled “The North and challenge of leadership :-Women perspective” was presented by Hajiya Saudatu Mahadi.
Mahadi advised women to supportively each other in their political dispensation,she also highlited some strategies that women can follow to pursue their political career most especially during campaigns without spending much.
she advised women to ensure that they send their daughter’s to school for them to acquire both western and Islamic education, which will be a stepping stone to their success.
In her goodwill message the special guest of honour Her excellency wife of the president Haj Aisha Buhari represented by Mrs Salihu Ibrahim promised to continue supporting the organization to achieve their objectives.
