MMAWT LEGACY INITIATIVE COMMEMORATES INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD AND FLAGS OFF ITS ANNUAL BACK TO SCHOOL SUPPORT PROGRAMME
The Founder of MMAWT Legacy Initiative (Khadimatul ummah ) and wife of the Sokoto State Governor, Hajiya Maryam Mairo Aminu Waziri Tambuwal today flagged off the foundation’s annual back to school support programme, which was aimed at supporting 1000 selected students from across the 23 Local government areas of Sokoto state with back to school packs as intervention , considering the reality most families overburdened by financial strain they are experiencing from the pandemic and flood victims !
In her welcome address, the special adviser to the Governor on Female Education, Hajiya Aisha Musa Maina, highlighted the achievements so far recorded by the Sokoto state Government, in regards to the enrollment of the girl child, methodologies adopted and successes achieved.
In his presentation on the role of community in girl child education, the Sarkin Yakin Gagi, Alhaji Ummaru Jabbi, spoke on the role of parents, traditional rulers and religious leaders in the universal goal aimed at achieving 100 percent enrollment drive of the girl child.
In a presentation on the importance of Entrepreneurship delivered by a Seasoned Entrepreneur and youth motivator, Dr Shadi Sabeh, the students were counseled on the importance of self reliance and skills acquisition along with educational pursuit.
Professor Sa’adiya Umar Bello also presented a paper on on Yantarun Nana Asma’u as a tool for addressing educational gender gaps and tackling Gender-Based Violence
In her speech, the Founder of MMAWT legacy initiative and wife of the Sokoto State Governor, Hajiya Maryam Mairo Aminu Waziri Tambuwal spoke about the logic behind the adoption of the Back to school support programme by the foundation since its inception and called on other organizations to adopt strategic support techniques and reduce over dependence on foreign based organizations.
The Wife of the Governor later flagged off the distributions of the materials to the students, while admonishing them to be good and obedient students.
The highlight of the event was a drama presentation on the importance of Girl Child Education, performed by the students and a cultural performance by the state cultural troupe, Ibo and Yoruba cultural groups among others.
In attendance were the state Commissioner of Social welfare and community development, Professor Aishatu Madawaki, Wife or the secretary to the state government, Hajiya Asiya Sa’idu Umar, the Regional manager of Access Bank, UNICEF field officers and other top government functionaries and political office holders.
Goodwill messages were also delivered by the State Amirah of FOMWAN, Hajiya zainab Binji, Dr Balbasatu Ibrahim and Barrister Buhari Maigwandu.
School shoes , Text books in maths and English, student guide books , Exercise books , maths set , school sandals , face masks and other necessary essentials for Students were packed for the children
While some teachers and parents were empowered with empowerment items for
Sustainability.
