The Sokoto state Zakkat and Waqf committee today distributed items and cash assistance to some Widows, less privileged and fire accident victims in the state.
The exercise which is carried out on a monthly basis had the wife of the Sokoto state governor, Hajiya Maryam Mario Aminu Waziri as the guest of honor.
The wife of the governor who was represented by Hajiya Laraba Abdullahi Dattijo thanked the committee for the gesture and called on the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items.
The items distributed include mattresses, sewing machines, and grinding machines. The beneficiaries are mostly married women and Widows who were given the equipment to assist them in their quest for self-sufficiency. Some victims of fire accidents were also assisted with cash and household items to cushion the effect of the loss they suffered and help them start over.
