    MMAWT LEGACY INITIATIVE PLANTS ECONOMIC TREES IN CONTINUATION OF ITS 1 MILLION TREES PROJECT

    Members of MMAWT Legacy Initiative Youth Vanguard, today planted economic trees seedlings at the Sultan Abubakar the lll Jumu’at Mosque and some newly developed areas within the Metropolis in continuation of its “One Million trees project” which targets the planting of a million trees within Sokoto State in 2 years to mitigate the effects of Climate Change.
    The seedlings planted in the ongoing exercise were chosen out of the hundreds of seedlings donated to the foundation by the Sokoto state Zakat and Waqf commission.

    FOUNDER OF MMAWT LEGACY INITIATIVE CONDUCTS AN OUTREACH IN CONTINUATION OF THE FOUNDATION’S BACK TO SCHOOL SUPPORT PROGRAMME AMIDTS COVID 19

    MMAWT Legacy Initiative’s back to school support programme was initiated by the foundation as parts of its humanitarian activities aimed at supporting the educational sector and encouraging children to enroll and stay in school.
    The programme supports students with school shoes , beddings , exercise and textbooks, school uniforms, girl child enrollment incentives to parents and school fees payments , scholarships , covid 19 incentives for the most vulnerable children.
    It is in continuation of the 2020 program flagged off on the 10th of October that the Founder of MMAWT legacy initiative and wife of the Sokoto State Governor, Hajiya Maryam Mairo Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, today visited some schools to distribute learning materials to the students.
    The schools visited are, NAFOWA Little angels, School located at the Airforce base, Sokoto, Command Day Secondary school (Girls) Giginya Barracks Sokoto, where the Commandant of the school, Major JN NKPERU, briefed the wife of the governor on the ongoing challenges of the school .
    While in her response, the state Commissioner of Social welfare and community development, Professor Aishatu Madawaki briefed the gathering on the efforts of the Sokoto State government that led to the successful take off of both the male and female schools in the state.
    The Commissioner explained that, the state government donated the buildings to the Army, renovated and constructed the essentials buildings not available, provided Mobility for the schools, deployed administrative and teaching staffs, and facilitated the enrollment of 500 students for both schools with the payment of full tuition fees .
    In her remarks, Hajiya Maryam Mairo Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, expressed her appreciation to the management of the school for the reception and promised to look into the requests made by the Commandant at the level of her foundation and forward the government related complaints to the appropriate authority.
    The Wife of the Governor was later conducted on a tour of the school by the Commandant, where she interacted with the students and admonished them on the need to concentrate on their studies.
    She also introduced the students to the guide book produced by the foundation to help guide them against being victims of predators who prey on young children and all form of abuse .
    She applauded the exchange students and enjoined them to take studying science seriously as in lies a great future with words of encouragement !

    FOUNDER OF MMAWT LEGACY INITIATIVE AND WIFE OF THE SOKOTO STATE GOVERNOR, RECEIVES HUMANITARIAN AND WOMEN AFFAIRS MINISTERS WHO WERE ON A ONE DAY WORKING VISIT TO SOKOTO STATE

    The Founder of MMAWT Legacy Initiative and wife of the Sokoto State Governor, Hajiya Maryam Mairo Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, today received the minister of humanitarian affairs, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Faruk and that of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen, who were in Sokoto to flag off the Federal Government Flood Relief Distribution program organized by the National Emergency Management Agency.
    On Arrival at the Sultan Abubakar the 3rd International Airport, the Wife of the Governor, Hajiya Maryam Mairo Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, led the ministers to the palace of His Eminence the Sultan Of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, where they paid Homage and received blessings alongside his Eminence’s gratitude for the gesture.
    The entourage then proceeded to the Sokoto State Government House where they were received by His Excellency Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.
    In her speech the minister of humanitarian affairs, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Faruk, briefed the governor on the ministry’s ongoing projects which includes the conditional cash transfer program,and the home grown school feeding program, she also solicited for the state’s support towards the success of the projects.
    While responding, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal said he is aware of the challenges being faced by the projects in the state especially the conditional cash transfer and promised continuous monitoring.
    The governor also informed the minister of an ongoing state conditional cash transfer, which was suspended due to the COVID-19 outbreak, which targets the 23 local government areas of the state and is expected to gulp 4 billion Naira on its completion. Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal also thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for the gesture.
    In her remarks, the Honorable Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen, described Governor Tambuwal as a Gender Friendly Governor, considering his efforts in carrying along the womenfolk in the state.
    In his response, Governor Tambuwal informed the minister of more projects in the pipeline specifically designed to target women, among which includes the ongoing all girls science secondary school, and the proposed all girls junior secondary schools across all local government areas, among other projects.
    While flagging off the distribution, the minister of humanitarian affairs, extended the goodwill message of the president and thanked the Sokoto State Government for its continuous support for the projects.
    Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, who was represented by the secretary to the state government, Malam Sa’idu Umar, outlined the support given to victims by the state government and thanked the federal government for the gesture which he described as timely.
    In a vote of thanks, the wife of the Sokoto State Governor, Hajiya Maryam Mairo Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, thanked the state government and federal government for the support and collaboration in the intervention scheme provided to the victims and called on the beneficiaries to ensure judicious use of the support provided to them.
    The visiting ministers were later seen off at the Sultan Abubakar the lll International Airport by the Wife of the Governor, the Secretary to the State Government, and the state Commissioners of Women and children affairs, Hajiya Kulu Sifawa and that of Social Welfare and community development, Professor Aishatu Madawaki.

    MMAWT LEGACY INITIATIVE COMMEMORATES INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD AND FLAGS OFF ITS ANNUAL BACK TO SCHOOL SUPPORT PROGRAMME
    The Founder of MMAWT Legacy Initiative (Khadimatul ummah ) and wife of the Sokoto State Governor, Hajiya Maryam Mairo Aminu Waziri Tambuwal today flagged off the foundation’s annual back to school support programme, which was aimed at supporting 1000 selected students from across the 23 Local government areas of Sokoto state with back to school packs as intervention , considering the reality most families overburdened by financial strain they are experiencing from the pandemic and flood victims !
    In her welcome address, the special adviser to the Governor on Female Education, Hajiya Aisha Musa Maina, highlighted the achievements so far recorded by the Sokoto state Government, in regards to the enrollment of the girl child, methodologies adopted and successes achieved.
    In his presentation on the role of community in girl child education, the Sarkin Yakin Gagi, Alhaji Ummaru Jabbi, spoke on the role of parents, traditional rulers and religious leaders in the universal goal aimed at achieving 100 percent enrollment drive of the girl child.
    In a presentation on the importance of Entrepreneurship delivered by a Seasoned Entrepreneur and youth motivator, Dr Shadi Sabeh, the students were counseled on the importance of self reliance and skills acquisition along with educational pursuit.
    Professor Sa’adiya Umar Bello also presented a paper on on Yantarun Nana Asma’u as a tool for addressing educational gender gaps and tackling Gender-Based Violence
    In her speech, the Founder of MMAWT legacy initiative and wife of the Sokoto State Governor, Hajiya Maryam Mairo Aminu Waziri Tambuwal spoke about the logic behind the adoption of the Back to school support programme by the foundation since its inception and called on other organizations to adopt strategic support techniques and reduce over dependence on foreign based organizations.
    The Wife of the Governor later flagged off the distributions of the materials to the students, while admonishing them to be good and obedient students.
    The highlight of the event was a drama presentation on the importance of Girl Child Education, performed by the students and a cultural performance by the state cultural troupe, Ibo and Yoruba cultural groups among others.
    In attendance were the state Commissioner of Social welfare and community development, Professor Aishatu Madawaki, Wife or the secretary to the state government, Hajiya Asiya Sa’idu Umar, the Regional manager of Access Bank, UNICEF field officers and other top government functionaries and political office holders.
    Goodwill messages were also delivered by the State Amirah of FOMWAN, Hajiya zainab Binji, Dr Balbasatu Ibrahim and Barrister Buhari Maigwandu.
    School shoes , Text books in maths and English, student guide books , Exercise books , maths set , school sandals , face masks and other necessary essentials for Students were packed for the children
    While some teachers and parents were empowered with empowerment items for
    Sustainability.

    The Founder of MMAWT Legacy Initiative and wife of the Sokoto State Governor, Hajiya Maryam Mairo Aminu Waziri Tambuwal today flagged off the foundation’s Empowerment and palliatives distribution program which targeted women and vulnerable groups in Sokoto, and will be duplicated across the 23 Local government areas of the state.

    The event which was done inline with the Zakat commission’s beneficiaries selection method featured distribution of food items, sewing machines, Grinding machines, Rice milling machines, economic trees seedlings, start up capital and other empowerment materials was held at the government house Sokoto and had in attendance the Deputy Governor of Sokoto state, His Excellency Hon Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, who was the special guest of honour, represented by the Chief Medical Director of Maryam Abacha women and children hospital, the Chairman Teachers Service Board Sokoto, Alhaji Bello Yabo. In a paper presentation on the significance of Charity delivered by the Chairman, Sokoto State Zakat commission, Malam Lawal Maidoki (Sadaukin Sokoto) he emphasized on the importance of charity and its significance to peace and development. Professor Sa’adiya Umar Bello also presented a paper on on Yantarun Nana Asma’u as a tool for addressing educational gender gaps and tackling Gender-Based Violence,which was concluded with a beautiful live performance by the ancient Yantarun Nana Asma’u troupe.

    The state Commissioner of Social welfare and community development, Professor Aishatu Madawaki, presented an overview of the foundation’s performance so far, while the legal officer of the foundation, Barrister Buhari Abdullahi Maigwandu intimated the gathering on the legal aspects of MMAWT Legacy Initiative’s interventions. In her speech, the Founder of MMAWT legacy initiative and wife of the Sokoto State Governor, Hajiya Maryam Mairo Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Spoke on the humanitarian activities of the foundation, targeted at all sectors of the society and echoed the need for support from local-organizations, and development partners while pledging her commitment to do more for humanity. Hajiya Maryam Mairo Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, also spoke about her commitment to the development of the girl child and Youth development, campaign against Gender-Based Violence and other related issues. Hajiya Maryam Mairo Tambuwal, restated the need to set aside Political affiliations and nepotic interests when giving incentives to the poor, in her words; “MMAWT legacy initiative is an apolitical and non-political platform, solely dedicated to improving the lives of people and the improving the Environment”The Founder and Wife of the Governor commenced the flag off of the consolidated humanitarian interventions which includes palliatives , distribution program and medical outreach supported by Doctors and volunteers from the state Ministry of Health and COVID-19 Volunteers group from the state COVID 19 task force team .The team of medical volunteers screened beneficiaries for Diabetes, Hypertension, Malaria and Typhoid while those who tested positive were imediately given medications to commence treatment.The white and blue theme adopted for the event, signifies peace and love.The highlight of the event was the featuring of S.A.W.T who is one of the child ambassadors for enlightenment on vaccinations ! She congratulated all stakeholders who ensured Nigeria has been certified Polio free.The flag off ceremony was held inat the government house today and will be continued in all senatorial zones and it’s affiliate local government areas in the state.

     The MMAWT Legacy Initiative adopted part of the selection model of the ZAKKAT and WAQF (Endowment) Commission in selecting beneficiaries of the disttibuted itemsas the Commission donated over 1000Seedlings with enormous socio economic benefits and re-instated the synergy on the foundations #climate change and tree planting initiative. Her Excellency, Haj. Maryam Mairo Aminu Tambuwal noted during the ceremony, that it was important for members of the society irrespective of social status to always engage in acts of Charity.     The Founder of MMAWT legacy initiative and wife of the Sokoto State Governor, Hajiya Maryam Mairo Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, today participated in a virtual roundtable conference organised by spotlight initiative with religious and traditional leaders to brainstorm and proffer solutions on ways to eliminate Gender-Based Violence and other harmful practices against women and girls in Nigeria.
    The conference anchored by Mrs Moji Makanjuola, featured the speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen, His Eminence the Sultan Of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, and Archbishop Benebo Fubara-Manue of the Christian council of Nigeria among others spoke on the root causes of GBV, its prevalence in our society today and ways to curtail it.
    In her contribution, Hajiya Maryam Mairo Tambuwal, emphasized on the domestication of the Child rights act, called for more legislations , Solicited and craved the pro-activeness of traditional rulers to put more measures in place in curbing these problems
    especially as Spotlight initiative seems to have been embraced nationwide .
    Meaningful Contributions and insights were also made by Representatives of the UN, UN Women, UNDP, traditional and religious leaders, Professor Mustapha,Representatives of Women Groups,and Representatives of Child Protection Networks, who all made commitments towards the fight against Gender-Based Violence.

    The Founder and wife of the Sokoto state Governor, Hajiya Mairo Aminu Tambuwal, earlier today led a team of the organization and some stakeholders in the Sokoto state Government key parastatal driving the spotlight initiative to a multi agency dialogue with the Country Director Hajiya Hadiza Aminu Dorayi of Spotlight Initiative and her team.The deliberation being the third one in tow between the foundation and spotlight initiative team leads since it’s adoption in Nigeria.

    Emphasis were made on the role and opportunities abound for non profits to play and also benefits to be derived was intensely discussed and perspectives shared in tune with the initiatives mandate . It largely highlighted deductions from the spotlight initiative Zoom roundtable with stakeholders of which the Founder and wife of the Governor was one of the panelist Themed: VIRTUAL ROUNDTABLE WITH TRADITIONAL AND RELIGIOUS LEADERS.

    During the meeting there was an appraisal, assessment , review and overview of legal and policy frameworks , relevant stakeholders and interventions of the Spotlight presence in Sokoto state, as well as the need for new innovative necessities as they collectively explored further developmental opportunities.

    The Country Cordinator, Hajiya Hadiza Aminu concurred as she stated that the organization’s evaluation team who has recently returned from a field assessment in Sokoto state overemphasized on how impressed and delighted they were by the level of implementation in the state and compliance level of the designed agreements.

    Hajiya Mairo Tambuwal also shared perspectives and intimated them further beyond the knowledge they have of the MMAWT platforms activities and efforts in all forms of abuse , substantiated records and actions consistently implemented .

    She went further to discuss an overview of the MMAWT legacy initiative roadmap that has been in place to protect the vulnerable and victims of Gender Based Violence and associated molestations of the vulnerable where adequate funding is available ! The Country coordinator said the purpose of their visit was to intimate the Founder and wife of the governor on the successes and challenges recorded in the ongoing effort to tackle the menace of violence against women and girls, and to also explore areas of more collaboration between Spotlight Initiative and MMAWT Legacy Initiative. Mrs Hadiza Aminu while briefing the wife of the governor on their mandate said, “The Spotlight Initiative is a global, multi-year partnership between the European Union and the United Nations to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls by 2030.

    And intimated other team leads present that Spotlight Launched with a seed funding commitment of €500 million from the European Union, we represent an unprecedented global effort to invest in gender equality as a precondition and driver for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. “The Highlight of the deliberation was a virtual phone call with the pioneer consultant who had the mandate to prepare the Spotlight initiative framework , policies and guidelines Dr.Eleanor Nwadinobi and at present the first Nigerian holding the position as President of international medical association and subsequently photo session protocols Hajiya Hadiza Aminu said MMAWT Legacy Initiative’s campaign against Gender-Based Violence conforms with spotlight initiative’s policies especially in regards to providing high-quality essential services for survivors of violence, Improving the quality, accuracy, and availability of properly segregated and detailed data on violence against women and girls. In her response, the founder of MMAWT Legacy Initiative, Hajiya Maryam Mairo Aminu Waziri Tambuwal said she was happy to receive a briefing from the coordinator whom she said has an impressive record on the fight against Gender-Based Violence and in the development sector .

    The meeting was closed by H.E MMAWT remarks and in her words ‘’ re-affirmed the commitment of her husband in discharging his duties as the state Governor by ensuring the people at the grassroots benefit from every Development intervention.Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has proven his commitment by ensuring the state meets up with his pledge on its obligations for a full support and implementation of the Spotlight projects in the state thus far , also in Nigeria and beyond ! She re-echoes the Governor is passionate about the agendas in the Spotlight initiative blueprint .

    The Spotlight Initiative’s governing body is chaired by United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed and European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the Commission Josep Borrell, who provide the Initiative’s overall strategic direction. Country-level implementation is led by the United Nations Resident Coordinator, in partnership with UN agencies, European Union delegations and civil society organizations.
